Garden Update

Garden Update

We are so excited about our little garden this year. The seeds we started are coming up, the plants we have re-potted are growing. I even have a little bloom on my bell pepper plant so far. It is amazing to watch the plants grow day after day. The kids look forward to making sure they have plenty of water every day.
Here are 2 tomato plants and 2 bell pepper plants.

Next is a bell pepper plant with our first bloom on it!

HEre are 4 more tomato plants. We several different varieties of tomatoes.

This tomato plant I believe is called a German tomato. One tomato can weigh as much as 2 lbs. The tomato vine can grow as tall as 6-7 feet.

We also have Brandywine seedlings,

as well as Oregano and Thyme.

We have quite a few Homestead Heirloom tomatoes,

Brussels Sprouts

and cucumbers!

I didn’t get pictures of our snow peas. We still have not planted our squash, mustard greens and spinach. I am hoping it isn’t too late to plant them either.

We are definitely looking forward to eating some fresh veggies!

Ever have one of those days…

Ever have one of those days…

…where you just miss someone so much?? Today has been one of those days for me. I truly miss my dad. A LOT!

He loved God, he loved his wife, he loved his kids and he loved his grandkids. He enjoyed being able to visit and spend time with them. I loved it when dad and mom were able to come and visit with us. We always had such a wonderful time.

This is the last picture of got of my dad with all my kids. I will treasure this picture forever. Looking forward to seeing my daddy again in heaven.

A field trip to the Cradle of Forestry

A field trip to the Cradle of Forestry

Several years ago, when we lived in Florida, we came to the mountains for a vacation. One of the places we visited was the Cradle of Forestry. Since we have moved to the mountains, we have been back a couple of more times.

The Cradle of Forestry was America’s very first Forestry School. They offer a glimpse of the history of the school by way of the Biltmore Campus Trail. You can also take a walk on the Forest Festival Trail where there is a restored 1915 logging train car. They also have a Forestry Discovery Center. This offers a walk through of the many wildlife and plants that live in the surrounding forests. Inside of the Center they have a helicopter simulator as well as a scavenger hunt for the kids.

The last time we went was for Smokey Bear’s Birthday Party. This is an event that they have yearly and is a blast. I am hoping to take the kids back this year. Samuel was just a year old when we took him. I know Samuel and Claire would enjoy visiting with Smokey Bear.

Below are some pictures from that day. I thought I had more of the train and the old forestry school building, however, I can’t seem to find them.

If you are ever in the area, be sure this is one place on your list of stops!
