Raising Real Men Giveaways…

I had the privalige and honor in meeting with Hal and Melanie Young back at our homeschool conference in August 2009. What wonderful people they are! They have 8 children with the 6 oldest being boys. They have written a book called “Raising Real Men”. They are celebrating the release of the book with a lot of giveaways donated to them by other Christian Homeschool Publishers. Please go check out today’s giveaway here.

Also keep in prayer Hal Young as he was just diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma. He has started Chemotherapy and will need to go through treatment for 6 months. Since Hal will be out of work a lot, this book is going to be one of their main sources of income.

Hal and Melanie’s youngest daughter Katie also has a heart condition called SVT. They have had to stop her medication as of last night so the doctors could do a heart procedure on her on Tuesday.

They would appreciate all prayers that you can send their way.

Assigned Chores…

All I can say is that I am so proud of my kids. I have been extremely busy the last few months or so and it was getting to a point that I was just overwhelmed with everything. The kids would more or less do things I asked them to do when I asked them to do them. However, we didn’t have a set schedule. I finally decided to help make things a little easier on all of us, so I made a chore list. I went to http://www.dltk-cards.com/chart/ to make a chore schedule. I had already talked to Buddy and we decided we would let the kids decide what chores they would do on what days. I do have great kids, but I honestly thought we would have to go back and fill in slots and even things out between the kids. Once we told the kids to take the list and fill in the days with their initials with what they wanted to do, they took the sheet and went right to work. To my surprise, they filled in almost ALL the days!! I could not believe it! I was really surprised, but yet extremely proud with how they chose their chores. Not only did they fill in most of the spaces, they got right to work on the chores they had decided they would do for that day! What a success! I truly have some of the greatest kids around! They have continued to this day to look at the chore list and help out. I am so proud of my kids!
