Apologia Botany Review

Apologia Botany Review

I have used a couple of the Apologia Elementary science books in the past.  So when I had the chance to review their Botany book, I was extremely excited! One of the main reasons why I love their science books so much is because they are creation based.  I also enjoy how the curriculum goes in-depth of the topic.  Each chapter is broken down into different sections making it simple enough to read a portion each day.

The Botany book starts out teaching on the nature of botany and the process of classifying plants.  It will then go into chapters talking about how plants start as seeds, how reproduction works in plants, how they make their food and how plants get water and nutrients.

Throughout the book, in each lesson, they have sections called “What Do You Remember”, “Notebook Activities” and then the “Projects”.  The projects are well explained and use a lot of items that you have around the house.   Botany Lab Kits (that has everything you need for the projects) are sold through various homeschool curriculum catalogs.  Apologia also has a Note-Booking Journal, and Lap Books that you can also purchase to use to reinforce the lessons.

While this book is geared for Kindergarten-6th grade age group, my oldest daughter who is 14 also listens in on the lessons and even participates with her younger siblings on the projects.

My kids have thoroughly enjoyed using the Botany science book.  They enjoy when we go on nature walks and are able to point out what we have read in our lessons.

(By the time this picture was taken, she was tired of me taking pictures!  )

Overall, we have truly loved using the Botany book by Apologia.  The kids are already asking which book we will be using next!

Have you used an Apologia Elementary Science book?  Did you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed their Botany book?

2:1 Conference, I’m Going, Are YOU??

2:1 Conference, I’m Going, Are YOU??

I am so excited!  I am going to the 2:1 Conference this year!  What is 2:1 Conference? This comes straight from their website:

“2:1 is the premier conference for bloggers like you – mothers, in the trenches of homeschooling, with hearts for God.  What are your desires for your faith, your homeschool, your blog this year?  Would you like these to grow in His grace?  Then join us.
You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. ~ Titus 2:1
This conference is based on Titus 2:1, but we’re not here to indoctrinate you.  This is a welcoming home for all denominations to come together, make new friends, be encouraged in homeschool and learn about social media – all with biblical principles and foundations.
2:1 has a knowledgeable and fun group of speakers waiting to share their expertise.  We’re ready to laugh with you, grow with you — and hug your neck!  We’ll see you there.”

When I first learned about the conference last year, I knew this was the one conference that I wanted to attend.   I just had to figure out a way to get there.  While I thought the price of the ticket was worth it, I just didn’t know how I could work it into our budget.  Thanks to the help from The Homeschool Village, See The Light decided to sponsor me!  I am so thankful and blessed that See The Light is giving me a chance to go to the conference.

Why do I want to attend this conference over any of the other conferences that are out there?  I love what 2:1 Conference stands for.  They want to help moms like me who love God, loves to share my faith and who love to blog learn more about social media to help others who homeschool.  Ever since I started homeschooling, I have always wanted to help new homeschooling families begin their journey.  I want to encourage them and help them any way I can.  Social media is one of the best ways to do that in this day and time.

As you can tell, I am extremely excited.  I am also thankful that God saw fit to allow everything to work out to where I could attend.  It is my goal to go to this conference, to learn as much as I can and come back to share it with all of my readers.  I would love to know if any of my readers will be attending this conference.  I would love to meet as many of you as I can.  Just look for a short and fluffy blonde headed blue-eyed chick with a grin from ear to ear!

Blessings!

See The Light Review

See The Light Review

I have been looking for an art curriculum for my children and I do believe I have found the one that is right for our family. It is See The Light art curriculum with master artist Pat Knepley.  They have an awesome team of artists that teach children from the basics.  The lessons come 4 to a Volume (dvd) and are about 10-15 minutes long.    They have 9 volumes out.   See The Light also has several story DVD’s where they tell a bible story and also include art lessons.

Come on by The Homeschool Village to read the rest of my review of See The Light!
