Samuel had decided for his 5th birthday that he wanted to go Blueberry picking. So we went to the Blue Ridge Mountains to a favorite spot of ours. We had a wonderful day!

Samuel is 5!!

Yesterday, our Samuel turned 5 years old. God is so good to us! After having Michael and Sarah, (especially when Sarah was just fixing to turn 7),we never thought we would have another child. Low and behold, what a shock we would get when we found out I was pregnant. It was truly a blessing. It didn’t happen in our time, but in God’s time! As all of our children have been, Samuel has definitely been a blessing to us. He keeps us laughing and on our toes. Samuel is 100% ALL boy. He loves being outside, digging in the dirt and playing video games. This year we will begin Kindergarten. He is so excited!

We asked Samuel what he would like to do for his birthday. He told us he wanted to go pick blueberries in the mountains. So we packed a picnic lunch and headed to the Blue Ridge Parkway. After a quick lunch, we headed for the blueberries. We had a wonderful time! I asked him what he wanted to do with the blueberries, and he said he wanted a blueberry cobbler. I am going to surprise him when he wakes up. He will have his blueberry cobbler this morning for breakfast. He is definitely a special little boy to us. God has truly blessed us!

Happy Birthday to Samuel!

Blueberry Picking…

A few years ago as we were riding on the Blue Ridge Parkway, we noticed several vehicles pulled off the side of the road. The people had buckets and were picking something. So, out of curiosity, we stopped and asked what they were picking. Low and behold, blueberries!! We were really surprised we hadn’t noticed blueberries before, as much as we enjoy riding on the parkway. So, we stopped by the visitor center and asked the Ranger about it. He said that it was legal and a lot of people pick blueberries and blackberries every year on the Blue Ridge Parkway. So, every year since then, we go pick blueberries on the parkway. Our kids enjoy doing this as much as we do. We have been anxiously awaiting for the season to begin. Finally, we had a free weekend and went yesterday to pick blueberries. We packed a picnic lunch and headed to a favorite spot of a friend of ours. All I can say is wow! We hit the jackpot. When we made it to the actual spot, there were already 3 other families enjoying the beautiful day picking berries. Everywhere you stepped, there was a small bush with blueberries on it. We had such a wonderful time! We stayed there for a couple of hours and ended up with around 2 gallons of blueberries! Our 2 little ones were getting tired, so we decided to call it a day. It was a wonderful day all around. We got to spend the day together as a family picking blueberries. I couldn’t have asked for a better day. God is so good to us!

After church, we are hoping to go back. Possibly going with another family. What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday, fellowshipping with others on God’s day, enjoying what he has made for us!
