School and Activities….

A lot has been going on lately. We have been busy as a family and also with our Homeschool group. The kids have many activities that they are a part of.

On top of doing school here at our house, we have many activities that we take part with other families. Michael is in the Civil Air Patrol. He has meetings once a week that he attends. On occasion he will go away for a weekend for Emergency Training. Michael also attends a high school co-op every Friday where they discuss what they have been doing at home. This includes his History and Biology. This last month, they have been doing dissections in Biology and should finish up this Friday with the frog. They will be finishing up History at the end of the month. They have been studying WWI and WWII and will be hosting a dinner for WWII Vets this week. The Veterans will be talking about their experience during the war. What an opportunity for the kids to learn from these wonderful people. It has definitely been a wonderful experience for him. Not only is Michael involved in this co-op, he also takes college classes at our local community college. He has thoroughly enjoyed taking classes at the college where his dad works at.

Sarah has been very busy with her studies as well. She is part of 2 co-ops, science and history. The science co-op has been using the Apologia series. This year, they have been using the book, “Exploring Creation with Astronomy.” She has loved reading and doing the experiments in this book! The Exploring Creation series is a wonderful elementary science curriculum. Sarah also takes part in a History co-op. We have been using “The Story of the World: Volume 1.” The projects and activities that we have done from this has been great! There is so much that we have learned from both of these curriculum’s and from the co-ops. Sarah has also been taking dance lessons. She has been learning Tap and Jazz. She has really come out of her shell and has enjoyed every moment of it. They have been practicing for the dance recital that is coming up at the end of May. She even has a small little solo in it. It is wonderful to see your children so happy doing something they love so much.

Samuel and Claire have been just as busy as their older siblings. We have started doing some preschool books with both of them. It is amazing how quickly they learn and to see their little minds open up to new ideas! They also take part in a preschool co-op every week. The co-op has been going through the alphabet. Samuel has always been our little shy one when it comes to crowds, but has really opened up to others through this co-op. Claire is one of the younger ones in the group, but acts like she is just like the rest. It is a blessing to see little ones come together to make new friends and learn together. Samuel and Claire enjoy this every week.

God has been good to us and has blessed us with happy, healthy and bright children. What an opportunity to have to be able to be at home and teach my children. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

I’m On A Journey….

I am on a journey. I won’t bore you with the emotional details just yet, but the just of it is, I am getting back to a healthier lifestyle. It finally sunk into my head last July that my weight was outrageous and I needed to do something about it. I tipped the scales at an astounding 255. I just couldn’t believe I had let myself get to that number. I was really ashamed of myself. God gave me my body and I was abusing it with food. I have always struggled with my weight, but it had never gotten out of hand like this. I turned to food during a time of depression and grief after losing my daddy to cancer. That really did a number on me. Almost a year later from losing my daddy, I got back on track. Through the support of my family and the grace of God, I am on a journey to a healthier life so I can be there for my husband and kids. Since July 2008, I have lost 45lbs. Even though I have a way to go, it is a start. I am just thankful that we have a wonderful God who gives us strength to carry on. I keep telling myself, “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.” I just ask that you pray for me in this journey that I am on.

Electricity…..

Electricity. We lost power today for about 30-45 minutes. It just went out with no warning. So, I call my husband at his work, so that he could report it for us. Low and behold, they are out also. How how interesting is that? Next thing you know, I get a phone call from a friend in a neighboring city. THEY are without electricity. Now, I was getting a little worried! Then, I thought to myself, I can do this. Our family can do this. Yes, I did not know what was going on, but knew that it would be fixed when the workers were able to get to it. So, with it being cold outside and snowing, I just told the kids to layer themselves just in case it started getting cooler in the house. Then, they got a board game out and started playing. For centuries before, they lived without electricity. So could we!!!! It is just amazing how much we all rely on technology. I am sure we could handle not having electricity for a few days, but I am very thankful we do have it back on now!!
