Nature Study Tuesday

Nature Study Tuesday

While we were visiting the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, we noticed a porpoise swimming out in the little bay area next to the castle. This was the best shot I was able to get at the time. However, it was still a treat to watch it swim and come to the surface and then go under the water again.

While the kids were swimming at the beach, my oldest daughter came across a frog swimming and hopping at the edge of the water. Of course she picked it up and then named it “George”. They built a sand castle for it and the frog actually stayed there for a bit. We were quite surprised. Then “George” decided it was time to move on and headed back to the edge of the water. My kids were thrilled to have found a frog at the beach.

I am not for sure what kind of frog this is. I have looked and there doesn’t seem to be any info about a salt water frog living in this area, but that doesn’t mean that one can’t adapt to it. So I am thinking this frog probably can handle both salt and fresh water. Does anyone else know?

He sure is a cute looking little frog! The kids wanted to bring him home, but we said no. The frog needed to live in its natural habitat. They were sad, but understood.

We enjoyed visiting the beach and look forward to when we can spend more time there.

Girly Gatherings Couture Cookies

Girly Gatherings Couture Cookies

I was fortunate enough to win a wonderful gift from Girly Gatherings.  A gift of 2 dozen couture cookies of my choice of design.  I was so excited!  I knew exactly what special event I would have the cookies decorated for.  My son’s 6th birthday!!  He loves trains, especially the old steam engine type.

Let me tell you that Girly Gatherings did not let me down!  I thought I was excited about just winning the cookies, however, wen she sent me a picture of the cookies for a sneak peak preview, I was ecstatic!

All week, we have been waiting for the arrival of the gorgeous cookies. Finally, Saturday came and we met our friendly mail lady as she pulled in our drive way.  Samuel could not wait to rip into the box!  Girly Gatherings do an awesome job of making sure the cookies are wrapped securely so as to keep them intact before your special occasion. After opening the 2nd box and then taking them out of the bubble wrap, w were finally able to see the 2 rows of cookies.  (I should have taken pictures of this, but totally forgot in all of our excitement!) Not only were they wrapped into a dozen each, but also individually wrapped.  We did not have one cookie broken in the entire package!

We gave our son one first and he LOVED it!  The cookies were delicious!  They were very fresh and absolutely perfect in every way.  While I didn’t get a picture of our son trying the cookie out, I did manage to take a picture of them.  All I can say is my picture did not do these cookies justice.

Thank you Girly Gatherings for the wonderful cookies. You really made a 6 year old boy happy on his birthday!!

Manatee Springs

Manatee Springs
While we were visiting family in Florida, we took a morning and drove down to Manatee Springs State Park. This is a beautiful place where you can swim, camp, scuba dive or just have a picnic. Or you can walk to the end of the board walk that follows the spring run to where it meets the Suwannee River and fish.

Known for its clear spring water, which stays a cool 72 degrees year round, it is also a refuge during the winter months for West Indian Manatees. While I have seen manatees in the springs before, there weren’t any at this time. We are hoping to go back when it is cooler in Florida (is that possible?) to visit and see if the manatees happen to be visiting the warmer waters.

As we were walking around looking at this gorgeous place, I got to thinking about what an awesome God we have. He made this! God spoke and it came to pass! What a mighty God we serve!

Genesis 1:9-10, 20-21

9And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

20And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
